Kawada Technologies and Kawada Roboticsare jointly developing "Tele-Barista OriHime x NEXTAGE" with Ory Laboratory.
This project was born from the dream of an OriHime pilot, a barista who had to give up their profession due to ALS, to once again serve freshly brewed coffee directly to customers.

Kawada Technologies is committed to this project as an experiment to pioneer new applications for Kawada Group's robots and to provide manual services in public settings using industrial robots. We continue to explore necessary technological elements, uncover needs, and challenge the limits of what manual robots can achieve in human-to-human communication.

Tele-Barista「OriHime x NEXTAGE」

"Tele-Barista OriHime x NEXTAGE" system allows a pilot, through the OriHime avatar robot developed by Ory Laboratory, to communicate with customers remotely and operate NEXTAGE to serve freshly brewed coffee. Currently, you can experience the Tele-Barista service at "Avatar Robot Cafe DAWN Ver. β."

What is NEXTAGE?

NEXTAGE is a human-sized robot developed by Kawada Robotics Corporation. It boasts high versatility, capable of collaborating with people on various tasks across all manufacturing sites. NEXTAGE contributes to the automation of a wide range of operations, not only in the electronics and automotive industries but also in cosmetics and food production.

What is OriHime?

OriHime is an “avatar robot” developed by Ory Laboatory that can be operated remotely via the internet. It allows you to be present at your workplace even if you cannot physically attend due to childcare, nursing care, hospitalization, or other reasons. Because people operate it using gestures, body language, and eye contact, it enables natural and rich communication, similar to face-to-face interaction.

Kawada Technologies, Inc. and Ory Laboratory, Inc. announced the launch of the "Tele-Barista Project" on August 31, 2020. The Tele-Barista was first introduced in a brick-and-mortar store at "Avatar Robot Cafe DAWN ver.β," a permanent experimental store opened by Ory Lab in June 2021, and is now providing services.
